Morgan Frost scores two goals in Phantoms win

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms played their second preseason game in front of the home fans at PPL Center Saturday night against the Wilke-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The fans got to see its first look at the 2021-22 roster. Earlier in the day, the Phantoms got Felix Sandstrom back from the Flyers.

The Phantoms got on the board at 8:31 in the first period by Max Willman (1) for a 1-0 lead. Morgan Frost (1) and Linus Hogberg (1) assisted Willman’s goal. After Wyatte Wylie was called for tripping, the Penguins tied it up 1-1 by Pierre-Oliver Joseph (1). The assists went to Mitch Reinke (2) and Jan Drozg (1).

At 14:59 in the first period, Kasper Bjorkqvist (1) put the Penguins up 2-1 with assists from Sam Houde (5) and Felix Robert (1). The Penguins led 2-1 at the end of the first period. The Phantoms committed five penalties in the first period.

In the second period, Nathan Legare (1) scored a short-hand goal that extended the Penguins lead to 3-1. Filip Hallander (1) assisted Legare’s goal.

Late in the second period, the Phantoms went on the power play after Penguins right winger Jan Drozg was called for slashing. Phantoms forward Samu Tuomaala (1) scored a power-play goal to cut the Penguins lead to 3-2. The Penguins led 3-2 after two periods.

In the third period, Phantom’s center Morgan Frost (1) tied the game 3-3. Left-winger Isaac Ratcliffe (1) and Samu Tuomaala assisted Frost’s goal. The game remained tied 3-3 after the third period ended.

Sixteen seconds into overtime, Morgan Frost (2) scored the winning goal 4-3 with assists from Tyson Foerster (1) and Adam Clendening (1).

The Phantoms had 29 shots on goal, and each team committed nine penalties. Goaltender Samuel Ersson made 32 saves.

The Phantoms play the Hershey Bears for the third preseason game from the Giant Center today at 5 pm.
