IronPigs defeat RailRiders 9-6

Lehigh Valley IronPigs

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (15-13) returned to PNC Field for game five Saturday afternoon versus the Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (18-8). Lehigh Valley looked to make it two wins in a row against Scranton. The starting pitchers for the game were David Parkinson (0-1, 5.52) of Lehigh Valley against Brody Koerner (1-1, 2.95) for Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre.

At the top of the second inning, with runners on first and second with one out, IronPigs shortstop Ruben Tejada hit an RBI groundout to put the IronPigs up 1-0. Then IronPigs third baseman Austin Listi singled that brought home another run for a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, with two runners on board and two outs, RailRiders second baseman Andrew Velazquez singled to right that cut Lehigh Valley’s lead to 2-1.

Moving to the top of the third inning with the bases loaded and one out. Lehigh Valley designated hitter Ryan Cordell hit a two-run double out towards left field, extending the IronPigs lead 4-1. Then, IronPigs catcher Rafael Marchan singled to right field, scoring two more runs for a 6-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, with runners on first and second, RailRiders shortstop Hoy Jun Park hit a three-run opposite side home run out towards left field that cut Lehigh Valley’s lead to two 6-4.

At the top of the fourth inning, with runners on second and two outs, Lehigh Valley center fielder Mickey Moniak singled on a ground ball toward the shortstop, scoring a run for a 7-4 lead.

Moving ahead to the top of the seventh inning with a runner on third base, Mickey Moniak sacrificed fly out towards center field scored Scott Kingery for an 8-4 lead. Two batters later, with two outs, Ryan Cordell crushed a solo home run out towards center field, adding another run, 9-4.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, RailRiders designated hitter Trey Amburgey hit a two-run single to right field that cut the IronPigs lead 9-6.

Moving to the bottom of the ninth inning, the IronPigs brought in David Paulino to finish the game. He struck out all three batters to end the game. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs defeated the Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 9-6.

IronPigs starting pitcher David Parkinson went (4.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, and 2 SO). The winning pitcher went to Lehigh Valley’s Bryan Mitchell (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB), while Brody Koerner (5.0 IP, 10 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO) earned the loss. David Paulino (1.0 IP, 3 SO) earned the save.

The IronPigs will wrap up the series today at 1:05 pm on MiLB.com with Cristopher Sanchez (1-1, 3.74) to counter Nick Green (0-1, 5.94) of the RailRiders.
