For the first time since 2019, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs returned to Cola-Cola Park Tuesday against the Rochester Red Wings in front of fans. Adonis Medina got the start for the IronPigs.
Medina got off to a rocky start in the first inning. On a 2-0 count, Red Wings shortstop Luis Garcia crushed the ball to center field to put Rochester up 1-0. The IronPigs would respond in the bottom of the second inning. After Rafael Marchan hit a single and Travis Jankowski walked, Luke Williams smashed a double towards left field to put Lehigh Valley up 2-1.
In the top of the third inning, Luis Garcia hit a single to start the inning. Carter Kieboom was able to move Garcia to second base after grounding out. Yasmany Torres doubled to bring Garcia home to tie the game at two apiece. The next batter up was Jake Noll, and he singled to left field to score Torres as the Red Wings took a 3-2 lead.
In the fourth inning, the IronPigs took Medina out and put in Ramon Rosso. He walked Sean Nolin but was able to get the next three batters to ground out. Rosso only lasted one inning, and Cristopher Sanchez came in for Rosso in the fifth inning. Sanchez got two players to ground out and struck out a player to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jean Segura, who is on a rehab assignment, singled to right field to get the inning started. Ronald Torreyes was up next, and he singled to left field. The Red Wings made a pitching change, and the IronPigs substituted Segura for Cornelius Randolph. After a Mickey Moniak flyout, Austin Listi singled to right field to bring Randolph home to tie the game at three apiece.
The game remained tied until it went into extra innings. Welington Castro went to second base to start the tenth inning. The new pitcher for the IronPigs was JD Hammer. Carlos Tocci grounded out to move Castro to third base. Gerardo Parra singled to left field to bring Castro home to put Rochester back up 4-3.
In the bottom of the tenth inning, Randolph went to second base to start the inning. Red Wings pitcher Justin Miller threw a wild pitch, moving Randolph to third base. C.J. Chatham, who replaced Torreyes, hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Randolph home, and the game was tied again at four apiece.
At the top of the eleventh, the IronPigs made another pitching change, bringing in Jeff Singer for JD Hammer. At the same time, Scott Kingery came in to play third base. Carter Kieboom went to second base to start the inning. After Yasmany Torres reached on a fielder’s choice, Jake Noll singled to left field and brought home Kieboom to put the Red Wings back up 5-4. Singer was able to get the next three guys out.
In the bottom of the eleventh inning, the IronPigs had Austin Listi start at second base. On a 2-2 count, Rafael Marchan flied out for the first out. The next batter was Travis Jankowski, and he struck out. Luke Williams was up next, and he singled to moved Listi to third base. Scott Kingery was up next. After working himself to a 1-2 count with two outs, Kingery tripled to left field as both Listi and Williams scored to give the IronPigs a 6-5 win.
The win went to Jeff Singer, who went one inning and allowed one hit and one strikeout. Adonis Medina went three innings, gave up six hits, and allowed three runs, one walk, and two strikeouts. Spencer Howard will get the ball for game two Wednesday at 7:05 pm.
