The Montreal Alouettes (11-3) visited Hamilton Stadium on Friday night against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-10) in the annual CFL Hall of Fame Game. The class of 2026 was returner/wide receiver Brandon Banks, running back Sean Millington, defensive lineman Charleston Hughes, defensive tackle Calvin Tiggle, running back Jim Evenson, and Frank “Pop” Ivy. This was the 207th all-time meeting between these two teams.
In the first quarter, both teams had trouble moving the ball with three two-and-outs. Midway through the first quarter, Montreal had the ball on the five-yard line. Running back Stevie Scott III started the drive with two carries for 11 yards to the 51-yard line. Scott III had three more carries for 19 yards, helping the Alouettes move the ball to the nine-yard line.
On the next play, quarterback Davis Alexander rolled to his left side with an open field in front of him. Reggie Stubblefield was caught in between Alexander and Donald Ventrelli. Alexander could’ve easily run into the endzone. Instead, he threw a touchdown pass to Ventrelli for a 7-0 lead with 4:38 left on a 10-play drive for 70 yards.
Late in the first quarter, Hamilton moved the ball to the 44-yard line. On the next play, Harrison Frost’s pass was intercepted by Lwal Uguak for a three-yard return to the 48-yard line. Kicker Jose Maltos Diaz made a 49-yard field goal to extend Montreal’s lead to 10-0 to end the first quarter. Montreal’s offense had 83 yards, and Hamilton’s offense had 43 yards.
In the second quarter, Hamilton had Jake Dolegala in on third down for a quarterback sneak. Montreal linebacker Geoffrey Cantin-Arku used his helmet to knock the ball out. The ball never touched the ground, and Nate Beauchemin picked it up to score a 57-yard touchdown for a 17-0 lead with 9:01 left.
Late in the second quarter, Montreal had the ball on the 24-yard line. The Alouettes moved the ball to the 12-yard line before Davis Alexander threw a screen pass to Tyson Philpot, who ran in for the touchdown. It was now 24-0 with 1:06 left on a 13-play drive for 86 yards. On the final drive of the second quarter, Hamilton moved the ball to the five-yard line. Kicker Marc Liegghio made a 13-yard field goal. The Alouettes led the Tiger-Cats 24-3 at halftime.
Montreal’s offense had 185 yards. Quarterback Davis Alexander went 15 of 17 for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Stevie Scott III had nine carries for 47 yards. Wide receiver Tyler Snead made four catches for 40 yards, while Tyson Philpot made four catches for 35 yards and one touchdown.
Hamilton’s offense had 142 yards. Quarterback Harrison Frost went 12 of 20 for 106 yards, one interception, and one carry for 10 yards. Running back Larry Rountree III had four carries for 25 yards. Wide receiver Kiondre Smith made three catches for 41 yards, while Keric Wheatfall made three catches for 33 yards.
Montreal got the ball to start the third quarter on the 45-yard line. Davis Alexander threw a 19-yard pass to Tyson Philpot to the 46-yard line. The Alouettes moved the ball to the 13-yard line before kicker Jose Maltos Diaz made a 21-yard field goal for a 27-3 lead with 11:22 left.
Hamilton quarterback Harrison Frost threw four passes for 39 yards to the 29-yard line. On the next play, Frost overthrew Keric Wheatfall, and it was intercepted by Lorenzo Burns for an 11-yard return to the 22-yard line. Montreal would go two-and-out. Hamilton would move the ball to the 43-yard line, but failed to convert on third down. Montreal took over on the 43-yard line.
The Alouettes had the ball for the rest of the third quarter. They moved the ball to the 12-yard line to end the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Alouettes moved the ball to the two-yard line before Caleb Evans scored the touchdown for a 34-3 lead with 13:01 left on a nine-play drive for 67 yards.
Hamilton had the ball on the 37-yard line. On the fourth play, Harrison Frost threw a 21-yard pass to Kurleigh Gittens Jr. to the 33-yard line. On the next play, Frost threw a touchdown pass to Kiondre Smith. They went for a two-point conversion, but the ball went off the fingertips of Kenny Lawler. It was now 34-9 with 9:55 left on a five-play drive for 73 yards.
After Montreal went two-and-out, Hamilton’s offense moved the ball to the three-yard line. Frost threw a touchdown pass to Kurleigh Gittens Jr. They would get the two-point conversion when Frost completed a pass to Kenny Lawler. It was now 34-17 with 4:55 left on a six-play drive for 58 yards.
Montreal would go two-and-out again. Kicker Jose Maltos Diaz attempted a 45-yard field goal, but the ball bounced off the left upright and was no good. Hamilton quarterback Harrison Frost threw three passes for 37 yards to the 33-yard line.
Montreal defensive back Faion Hicks sacked Frost for a five-yard loss, but Josh Archibald was hit with a roughing the passer penalty, moving the ball to the 18-yard line. Two plays later, Frost threw a touchdown pass to Keric Wheatfall. They would get another two-point conversion when Frost completed a pass to Kiondre Smith. It was now 34-23 with 1:59 left on a seven-play drive for 70 yards.
Montreal went two-and-out. On the second play, Harrison Frost threw a bad pass to no one that was intercepted by Gemon Green for a 21-yard return to the 29-yard line. Kicker Jose Maltos Diaz made a 33-yard field goal for a 37-25 lead with 23 seconds left. With 12 seconds left, Harrison Frost threw another interception to Nate Beauchemin, and the game was over. The Alouettes beat the Tiger-Cats 37-25. Montreal sweeps the season series, and Hamilton’s losing streak is now at four games.
Montreal’s offense had 319 yards (218 passing yards, 112 rushing yards, 11 yards lost), 22 first downs, 10 of 20 on second down, 3 for 4 in the redzone, and the team was penalized eight times for 95 yards. Quarterback Davis Alexander completed 21 of 27 passes (77%) for 218 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Stevie Scott III had 21 carries for 108 yards and one catch for six yards, while Caleb Evans had three carries for four yards and one touchdown.
Wide receiver Tyson Philpot made six catches for 57 yards and one touchdown, while Tyler Snead made four catches for 40 yards. The defense made 38 tackles, four interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown.
Hamilton’s offense had 381 yards (330 passing yards, 51 rushing yards), 22 first downs, 14 of 22 on second down, 2 for 3 in the redzone, and the team was penalized four times for 35 yards. Quarterback Harrison Frost completed 33 of 50 passes (66%) for 330 yards, three touchdowns, four interceptions, and two carries for 14 yards. Running back Larry Rountree III had six carries for 34 yards.
Wide receiver Kiondre Smith made six catches for 99 yards and one touchdown, while Kurleigh Gittens Jr. made nine catches for 72 yards and one touchdown, and Keric Wheatfall made five catches for 60 yards and one touchdown. The defense made 46 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one sack.
Next Saturday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats visit the Edmonton Elks at 7 pm on TSN and CFL+, while the Montreal Alouettes are on a bye week.
