The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (64-73, 29-33) and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (73-62, 36-25) concluded the six-game series in their final meeting of the season on Sunday at PNC Field. Drake Fellows was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Adam Kloffenstein for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
In the bottom of the first inning, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre right fielder Yanquiel Fernández put the RailRiders up 3-0 by hitting Fellows’s changeup for a three-run home run at 377 feet to right field. It was his 25th home run of the season, and the exit velocity off the bat was 98.3 mph. With two outs, Fellows struck out Oswaldo Cabrera to end the inning.
At the top of the second inning, Lehigh Valley had a runner on second base with two outs when Dylan Moore hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Gabriel Rincones Jr. It was now 3-1. A flyout by Jordan Dissin ended the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning with one out, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre catcher Abrahan Gutierrez made it 4-1 by hitting Fellows’s slider for a solo home run at 395 feet to left-center field. It was his third home run of the season, and the exit velocity off the bat was 102.4 mph. Two batters later, Jarred Kelenic hit an RBI triple to left field, scoring Duke Ellis for a 5-1 lead.
Anthony Volpe followed up by hitting an RBI single to left field for a 6-1 lead. With two outs, Marco Luciano popped out to first baseman Carter Kieboom for the third out. Drake Fellows went four innings, allowing seven hits, six runs, two walks, and three strikeouts, throwing 86 pitches, of which 56 were strikes.
Tucker Davidson pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre had a runner on third base with one out when Jarred Kelenic hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Abrahan Gutierrez for a 7-1 lead. Davidson struck out Anthony Volpe to end the inning. Tucker Davidson went two innings, allowing a hit, a run, a walk, and three strikeouts, throwing 29 pitches, of which 20 were strikes.
Mitch Neunborn pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the seventh inning. He allowed two hits, throwing 11 pitches, of which seven were strikes, to get three outs. Kyle Backhus pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the eighth inning. He allowed a hit, a walk, and one strikeout, throwing 14 pitches, of which nine were strikes, to get three outs.
At the top of the ninth inning, Lehigh Valley had a runner on second base when Kameron Mizner hit Justin Topa’s four-seam fastball for a two-run home run at 387 feet to right field. It was now 7-3. It was Misner’s 20th home run of the season, and the exit velocity off the bat was 108.6 mph.
The IronPigs would lose the series finale 7-3. The IronPigs split the season series 12-12. Lehigh Valley finished the afternoon with three hits, went 2 for 4 with runners in scoring position, and left two men on base. The loss went to Lehigh Valley starter Drake Fellows (5-4), and the win went to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Adam Kloffenstein (4-11).
