The NTT IndyCar Series visited the Milwaukee Mile this weekend for a doubleheader. They were supposed to race on Saturday and a race on Sunday. However, Mother Nature has played a role, with rain hitting the race on Saturday, forcing Saturday’s race to conclude on Sunday. With Race 1 unable to take place in the morning due to rain, Race 2 went on as scheduled.
In Race 1, Scott McLaughlin started the race on the pole, with Alex Palou starting second. Pato O’Ward, who started in fifth place, took the lead on the first lap. He led the opening 21 laps before losing the lead to Felix Rosenqvist. Rosenqvist led until lap 51 before losing the lead to Will Power.
Dennis Hauger led a couple of laps, and Romain Grosjean led a lap before Pato O’Ward went back to the lead. On lap 64, rain began to fall on the track, forcing the race to be postponed until Sunday. The first race resumed shortly after the second race was completed. The race restarted on lap 100 with Pato O’Ward in the lead. O’Ward went to pit road on lap 119, handing the lead to Christian Lundgaard. He led a lap before making a pit stop, and David Malukas was the new leader.
Malukas led 22 laps before making a pit stop on lap 143, and Pato O’Ward went back to the lead. On lap 151, Mick Schumacher spun on the frontstretch to bring out the caution. It was one of four cautions throughout the day. On lap 200, Will Power crashed at Turn 4, and on lap 214, Caio Callett hit the wall on the frontstretch.
David Malukas and Pato O’Ward took turns leading several laps. After the last caution, O’Ward took the lead for good, leading the final 24 laps to sweep the doubleheader at Milwaukee by 1.7535 seconds over David Malukas. It was O’Ward’s third win of the season, and fifth for Arrow McLaren this year. O’Ward led 119 of 250 laps. Rinus VeeKay, Scott McLaughlin, and Christian Rasmussen rounded out the top five. Christian Lundgaard, Josef Newgarden, Marcus Ericsson, Marcus Armstrong, and Alex Palou completed the top ten. Click here to view the full results.
With the tenth-place finish, Palou clinched the 2026 NTT IndyCar Series championship. He is the second driver in IndyCar history to win four-straight championships (Sebastian Bourdais, Champ Car (2004-07), and his fifth title in six years.
There were 12 lead changes among eight drivers, four cautions for 70 yards, and 696 passes, of which 372 were for positions.
In Race 2 of the Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250, Alex Palou started the race on the pole, with Pato O’Ward starting second. Alex Palou led the opening 33 laps before a caution came for Romain Grosjean’s spin at Turn 2. The race would see two more cautions as Josef Newgarden crashed at Turn 4 on lap 142, and Grosjean also crashed at Turn 4 on lap 157.
Alex Palou led a race-high 115 of 250 laps. He began to fade away with 104 laps to go. Scott McLaughlin took the lead on lap 147. He led until lap 174 before losing the lead to Will Power. Will Power led several laps before making his final pit stop on lap 193. Christian Rasmussen led two laps before making a pit stop, and Pato O’Ward took the lead for good. O’Ward led 55 laps to win his second race of the season by 0.7916 seconds over Scott McLaughlin. It was also his 11th career IndyCar win.
Christian Lundgaard, David Malukas, and Alex Palou rounded out the top. Kyle Kirkwood, Rinus VeeKay, Christian Rasmussen, Marcus Ericsson, and Louis Foster completed the top ten.
