The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (53-51, 21-18) took on the Salem RidgeYaks (46-59, 21-19) in game four on Friday night at Carilion Clinic Field. Adrian Ardines was on the mound for Fayetteville against Sadbiel Delzine of Salem.
In the bottom of the second inning, Salem had a runner on second base with two outs when Anderson Fermin hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Louis Andujar to put the RidgeYaks up 1-0. Ardines struck out Ilan Fernandez to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Salem had runners on second and third base with one out when Avinson Pinto hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Kleyver Salazar for a 2-0 lead. Ardines struck out Anderson Fermin to end the inning. Adrian Ardines went four innings, allowing three hits, two runs, two walks, and seven strikeouts, throwing 80 pitches, of which 49 were strikes.
At the top of the fifth inning, Fayetteville struck back with runners on second and third base when Logan Hughes hit a two-out, two-run RBI single to right field. Owen Nowak and Kam Durnin scored, tying the game 2-2. Kevin Alvarez struck out swinging, and the inning was over.
Jhoster Baez pitched for Fayetteville in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Salem had a runner on third base with one out when Anderson Fermin hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Avinson Pinto to put the RidgeYaks ahead 3-2. With two outs, a flyout by Franklin Primera ended the inning. Baez went three innings, allowing four hits, one run, four walks, and one strikeout, throwing 66 pitches, of which 35 were strikes.
Moving to the top of the eighth inning, Fayetteville had a runner on first base when Waner Luciano hit an RBI double off the wall at left-center field, scoring Kevin Alvarez. The game was tied 3-3. With two outs, a flyout by Juan Sierra ended the inning.
Leomar Rosario pitched for Fayetteville in the bottom of the eighth inning. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Rosario loaded the bases with one out. Rosario walked Anderson Fermin, scoring Givian Sirvania to end the game. The Woodpeckers lost to the RidgeYaks 4-3. Rosario went 1.1 innings, allowing a hit, two walks, and three strikeouts, throwing 45 pitches, of which 21 were strikes.
Fayetteville finished the night with eight hits, committed three errors, went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position, and left six men on base. The loss went to Fayetteville pitcher Leomar Rosario (1-1), and the win went to Salem pitcher Jose Bello (2-4).
The Woodpeckers and RidgeYaks play game five on Saturday at 6:35 pm on the MLB App and Bally Sports Live. Fayetteville have yet to name a starter, while Leighton Finley (5-4, 4.95 ERA) will be on the mound for Salem.
