The NASCAR Cup Series visited the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon in the Brickyard 400 Presented by PPG. Carson Hocevar started the race on the pole, with Daniel Suarez starting second.
Hocevar led the opening 31 laps before making a pit stop, handing the lead to Daniel Suarez. Once the pit stops were completed, Ty Gibbs was the new leader. Kyle Larson crashed at Turn 3 to bring out the first caution on lap 46. Ty Gibbs led eight laps to win the first stage.
Ty Gibbs was still the leader to begin the second stage. He led 30 laps before losing the lead to Corey Heim. Heim led 17 laps until he went to pit road on lap 92. During the next round of pit stops, Daniel Dye spun at Turn 3 after experiencing a left-rear tire issue. Ross Chastain won the second stage.
Denny Hamlin was the new leader to start the final stage. On the next lap, Corey Heim took the lead when Ryan Blaney made contact with John Hunter Nemechek and spun at Turn 3, triggering a multi-car wreck that also involved Ross Chastain, AJ Allmendinger, Austin Hill, Riley Herbst, Zane Smith, Casey Mears, and Connor Zilisch.
On the restart, Corey Heim got a push from Joey Logano to keep the lead. Heim led the final 35 laps to win his second career Cup Series race by 0.287 seconds over Christopher Bell. Heim became the youngest driver to win the Brickyard 400 since Jeff Gordon in 1994. He has now won two of his last three starts. Heim is also the first driver since Davey Allison and Tim Richmond in 1987 to win multiple races in the Cup Series. Heim led a race-high 58 of 160 laps.
Joey Logano, Chase Briscoe, and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five. For Hamlin, it is his seventh win as an owner this year for 23XI. Brad Keselowski, Josh Berry, Ryan Preece, Carson Hocevar, and Tyler Reddick completed the top ten. Click here to view the full standings.
