The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (46-53, 11-13) took on the Indianapolis Indians (47-52, 16-8) in game three on Thursday night at Victory Field. Chuck King was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against José Urquidy of Indianapolis.
In the bottom of the first inning, Indianapolis had runners on the corners when Ronny Simon stole second base, and Termarr Johnson stole home plate to give the Indians a 1-0 lead. With two outs, a flyout by Duce Gourson ended the inning.
Moving to the top of the sixth inning, Lehigh Valley catcher Paul McIntosh hit a double to left field. Shortstop Christian Cairo followed by hitting an RBI double to left field, scoring McIntosh and tying the game 1-1.
Two batters later with one out, Felix Reyes grounded out to shortstop Grae Kessinger, scoring Cairo to give the IronPigs a 2-1 lead. With two outs, Keaton Anthony hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Tommy Pham for a 3-1 lead. A flyout by Otto Kemp ended the inning.
Lehigh Valley starter Chuck King was sensational, pitching eight innings, allowing five hits, one run, and striking out five, throwing 83 pitches, of which 62 were strikes. Grant Holman pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the ninth inning. Holman threw seven pitches, of which four were strikes, to get the final three outs of the game.
The IronPigs ended a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Indians. Lehigh Valley finished the night with four hits, went 1 for 4 with runners in scoring position, and left three men on base. Christian Cairo went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. The win went to Lehigh Valley starter Chuck King (7-4), while Grant Holman earned his first save of the season, and the loss went to Indianapolis starter José Urquidy (5-4).
The IronPigs and Indians play game four on Friday at 7:05 pm on the MLB App and Bally Sports Live. Drake Fellows (1-1, 5.18 ERA) will be on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Noah Murdock (2-2, 3.63 ERA) of Indianapolis.
