After rain postponed Sunday’s race, the NTT IndyCar Series held the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix on Monday afternoon at Nashville Superspeedway. Due to the heat, the race was shortened to 225 laps. Kyle Kirkwood started the race on the pole, with Josef Newgarden starting second.
Kyle Kirkwood led the opening 18 laps until Caio Collet smacked the wall at Turn 4 to bring out the first caution of the race. It was one of three cautions throughout the race. Kirkwood led an additional four laps before making a pit stop, and Louis Foster took the lead when he stayed out. On the restart, Foster led a couple of laps before David Malukas took the lead, and Foster quickly fell back.
Malukas led until lap 60, when he went in for his first pit stop of the day, and Scott McLaughlin took the lead. Malukas would reclaim the lead on lap 88. He would make his second pit stop on lap 119. During the second round of pit stops, Alexander Rossi was getting ready to enter the pit lane, but Scott Dixon hit him from behind to bring out the second caution on lap 123. Scott McLaughlin was the new leader. He led until lap 123 before making a pit stop, and Kyle Kirkwood led a lap before entering pit road.
Alex Palou was the new leader on lap 131. Palou dominated the rest of the race, leading 95 laps to win his fifth race of the season by 0.8731 seconds over Josef Newgarden. David Malukas, Scott McLaughlin, and Felix Rosenqvist rounded out the top five. Marcus Ericsson, Pato O’Ward, Mick Schumacher, Kyffin Simpson, and Kyle Kirkwood completed the top ten. There were 395 passes, of which 246 were for positions. David Malukas was the most improved driver, starting 25th and finishing third.
