The Repco Supercars Championship continued the weekend with Race 18 of the betr Darwin Triple Crown on Saturday at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, Northern Territory. The race was 70 laps. Cam Waters was on the pole, with Brodie Kostecki starting second.
At the start of the race, Matthew Payne jumped the line before the race went green. He was given a five-second penalty. On the second lap, Payne passed Kostecki for second place. On the fifth lap, Ryan Wood’s day came to an end when he bumped into Declan Fraser, causing a power steering issue, and later, a water pump issue put him out of the race.
On lap 19, Matthew Payne went to pit road to serve the penalty. Cam Waters was leading the race when he went to pit road on lap 25. Waters kept the lead exiting pit road after weaving to prevent Payne from passing him. Waters was handed a bad sportsmanship flag. On lap 37, Payne faded back and fell behind Kai Allen.
Kai Allen caught Cam Waters and battled him for the lead. On lap 41, Waters ran wide at Turn 7, opening the door for Allen to take the lead and pull away. Matthew Payne was passed by Brodie Kostecki and made his final pit stop on lap 44. Allen built an over three-second gap to Waters, leading him to pit three laps later. Allen went in a lap later and came out with the lead.
With under ten laps left, Brodie Kostecki challenged Cam Waters for second place. With four laps to go, Kostecki attempted to pass Waters, but he pulled back to cool his tires. Upfront, Kai Allen went on to win his second race of the season by 8.616 seconds.
Cam Waters, Brodie Kostecki, Matthew Payne, and William Brown rounded out the top five. Chaz Mostert, Broc Feeney, Anton De Pasquale, Jack Le Brocq, and Jayden Ojeda completed the top ten. Click here to see the full results.
