The Toronto Argonauts signed defensive back Dathan Hickey to the practice squad on Saturday, according to the CFL Transactions page.
Dathan Hickey is six foot one and weighs 200 pounds. The 26-year-old from Bristol, Connecticut, spent six seasons at Yale (2018-23) with 101 tackles (72 solos, 29 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, five interceptions, 18 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 30 games for the Bulldogs.
In 2021, he had 31 tackles (19 solos, 12 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, five pass breakups, and four forced fumbles in eight games.
Then, Hickey transferred to Youngstown State University (2024-25). Hickey missed the 2024 season with an injury. In 2025, he made a career-high 67 tackles (35 solos, 32 assists), half a tackle for loss, two interceptions for 24 yards, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 10 games for the Penguins.
He was named FCS National Defensive Player of the Week in Week 1 against Mercyhurst when he made 13 tackles (10 solos, 3 assists), one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
Hickey attended Bristol Central High School, where he played quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and defensive back. He earned the Team MVP, All-Star, Walter Camp All-Star, two-time All-Conference, and New Haven Register All-State Team. As a senior, he had 1,402 rushing yards, 30 rushing touchdowns, 48 tackles, and two interceptions. In addition to football, Hickey played basketball and baseball.
