Bryan De La Cruz drives in two runs in a Lehigh Valley win over Rochester

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (29-33) played game five against the Rochester Red Wings (27-24) on Saturday night from Coca-Cola Park. Alan Rangel was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Andry Lara of Rochester.

Rain moved into Coca-Cola Park a half hour before the game was supposed to begin. The delay lasted two and a half hours. Due to the weather delay, the game was shortened to seven innings.

The game was scoreless in the first three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Bryan De La Cruz hit a double, and Christian Cairo hit a single to move De La Cruz to third base with one out. Lehigh Valley second baseman Carter Kieboom hit an RBI single to third baseman Yohandy Morales, scoring Cruz to give the IronPigs a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Paul McIntosh grounded into a forceout at second base, and the inning was over.

Moving to the bottom of the fifth inning, Lehigh Valley had the bases loaded with one out when Bryan De La Cruz hit a two-run RBI single to right field. Gabriel Rincones Jr. and Otto Kemp scored for a 3-0 lead. With two outs, a groundout by Carter Kieboom ended the inning.

At the top of the sixth inning, Rochester had a runner on third base when Yohandy Morales hit Rangel’s four-seam fastball for a two-run home run at 375 feet to right field. The Red Wings trailed the IronPigs 3-2, and the exit velocity off the bat was 105.4 mph. With two outs, a lineout by Abimelec Ortiz ended the inning. Alan Rangel pitched six innings, allowing three hits, two runs, one walk, and eight strikeouts, throwing 77 pitches, of which 58 were strikes.

Lou Trivino pitched for Lehigh Valley at the top of the seventh inning. With two outs, Rochester had the bases loaded. Trivino struck out Christian Franklin to end the game. The IronPigs defeated the Red Wings 3-2. Trivino allowed two hits, one walk, and one strikeout, throwing 24 pitches, of which 15 were strikes. It is Lehigh Valley’s second straight win.

Lehigh Valley finished the night with seven hits, went 3 for 10 with runners in scoring position, and left seven men on base. Bryan De La Cruz went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. The win went to Lehigh Valley starter Alan Rangel (3-4), while Lou Trivino earned his second save of the season, and the loss went to Rochester starter Andry Lara.

The IronPigs will look to split the series with the Red Wings on Sunday at 1:15 pm on the MLB App. Drake Fellows (0-0, 2.70 ERA) will be on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Carson Palmquist (1-3, 6.75 ERA) of Rochester.
