The Edmonton Elks signed defensive back Tyshon Blackburn to the practice squad on Tuesday, according to the CFL Transactions page.
Tyshon Blackburn is six foot two and weighs 203 pounds. The 24-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, made two tackles in one preseason game for the Argonauts in 2026. The Argonauts released him on May 30, 2026.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted Blackburn in the third round (27th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. In 2024, he made four tackles, three tackles on special teams, and one interception in 17 games, when the Argonauts won the 111th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2025, he made 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one interception in 18 games.
Collegiately, Blackburn played four seasons at the University of Alberta (2019-23) with 100 tackles (78 solos, 22 assists), one tackle for loss, four interceptions for 61 yards, and 12 pass breakups. In 2023, Blackburn made 25 tackles (17 solos, 8 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception for 13 yards, and three pass breakups.
He was named First Team U Sports All-Canadian in 2021 after finishing the season with a career-high 32 tackles (26 solos, 6 assists), two interceptions, five pass breakups, and one catch for six yards in eight games.
