The Toronto Argonauts released running back Jyran Mitchell on Sunday.

Jyran Mitchell is six foot and weighs 205 pounds. The 26-year-old from Chicago, Illinois, re-signed with the Argonauts on January 14, 2026. In 2026, he had five carries for 14 yards and two catches for 14 yards in two preseason games.

The Toronto Argonauts signed Mitchell on January 22, 2025. In 2025, Mitchell had 11 carries for 118 yards, one touchdown, and three catches for 27 yards in two preseason games to earn a spot on the practice squad. The Argonauts released him on June 10, 2025. He re-signed with the Argonauts on July 21, 2025, and spent a week on the practice squad. The Argonauts released him on July 29, 2025.

Collegiately, Mitchell played two seasons at Northern Illinois (2018-19) with two carries for -2 yards, one kick return for 25 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in nine games for the Huskies.

Next, he transferred to Eastern Kentucky University (2021-22) with one carry for three yards, completing 1of 2 passes (50%) for 42 yards, 38 catches for 428 yards, two touchdowns, one kick return for 14 yards, and seven tackles (7 solos) in 21 games for the Colonels.

Then, he transferred to Butler in 2023 with 199 carries for 1,268 yards, 12 touchdowns, completed 3 of 3 passes (100%) for 23 yards, 23 catches for 202 yards, and three touchdowns in 11 games for the Bulldogs. He was named First Team All-Pioneer League, the Pioneer League Offensive Player of the Year, and a finalist for the Walter Peyton Award.

The Argonauts released the following players: Quarterback Anthony Guercio, running back Peyton Logan, wide receivers Andre Miller, Dimitri Stanley, Marcus Rogers, Quincy Skinner Jr., SeVonne Rhea, and Tyriq Quayson, offensive linemen Victor Olaniran, Philip Wilder, John Bosse, Frank Vreugdenhil, Marcus Harper II, Cole DeMagistris, and Anthony Vandal, defensive linemen Quincy Robinson and Greg Reaves, linebackers Jordan Pollard, Jalen Rayam, and Aaron Casey, defensive backs Akili Arnold, Ed Woods, Tyshon Blackburn, and Vincent Gray, long snapper Christopher Liberta, and kicker Nathan Walker.

The Argonauts placed the following players on the practice squad: Running back Weagbe Mombo, wide receivers Tristan Ready, Solomon Davis, and Tyler Kahmann, offensive linemen Anim Dankwah and Rush Reimer, defensive lineman Denzel Daxon, linebacker James Neal, defensive backs Alex Teubner, Anthony Wilson, Theran Johnson, and kicker/punter Reed Martin.
