The Edmonton Elks released wide receiver Justin McGriff on Sunday.
Justin McGriff is six foot six and weighs 215 pounds. The 25-year-old from Tampa, Florida, re-signed with the Elks on November 24, 2025. In 2026, he made one catch for 11 yards against the Calgary Stampeders in the preseason game.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed McGriff on May 5, 2023. In 2023, he made four catches for 58 yards against the Toronto Argonauts in a preseason game. Later in camp, McGriff tore his ACL and missed the rest of the 2023 season. He would later be transferred to the league suspension list and became a free agent after the 2024 season. The Edmonton Elks signed McGriff to the practice squad on October 6, 2025. The Elks released him on October 25, 2025.
Collegiately, McGriff appeared in one game at Nebraska in 2018 with no stats for the Cornhuskers. Next, he transferred to ASA Miami in 2019, with 25 catches for 360 yards and eight touchdowns in seven games for the Silver Storm.
Then, McGriff transferred to Utah State (2020-22) with 80 catches for 1,037 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four tackles (4 solos) in 33 games for the Aggies. His 1,037 yards made him the 37th player in school history with 1,000 career receiving yards. In 2022, McGriff made 30 passes for 438 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games.
The Elks also released quarterback Zach Zebrowski, running back Rushawn Baker, wide receivers Jalon Calhoun, Julian Hicks, Kisean Johnson, and Binjimen Victor, offensive linemen Erick Cade, Mark Evans II, Matthew Ljuden, Jaxon Morkin, and Domenico Piazza, defensive lineman B.J. Thompson, linebackers Jaxxon Brashear and Yunus Larry, and defensive backs Travion Blaylock, JaVaughn Byrd, Ian Kennelly, and Jaylin Williams.
The following players were placed on the practice squad: Running back ShunDerrick Powell, fullback Bradley Hladik, wide receiver O.J. Hiliare, offensive linemen Cameron Carter and Chris Pashula, defensive linemen Francis Bemiy, Richard Jibunor, Gavin Meyer, defensive backs Ladarius Tennison and Terez Reid, and kicker Jesus Gomez.
The Elks placed wide receiver Eloa Latendresse-Regimbald and linebacker Olivier Muembi on the retired list as they are returning to school.
