The Toronto Argonauts placed linebacker Enock Makonzo on the retired list on Sunday, according to the CFL Transactions page.
Enock Makonzo is five foot eleven and weighs 195 pounds. The 29-year-old from Lachine, Quebec, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 18, 2026. Makonzo did not play in the preseason game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday.
The Edmonton Elks drafted Makonzo in the first round (4th pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft. In 2022, Makonzo made 56 tackles, one tackle on special teams, two sacks, and one forced fumble in 16 games. In 2023, he made 11 tackles and one forced fumble in five games. The Elks released him on May 1, 2024. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Makonzo on May 6, 2024. He did not play in 2024 due to injury.
Makonzo signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on February 13, 2025. Makonzo missed the 2025 season due to an injury.
Collegiately, Makonzo played two seasons at New Mexico Military Institute (2017-18) with 105 tackles (58 solos, 47 assists), 14.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, one interception, and one pass breakup in 18 games for the Broncos.
Then, he transferred to Coastal Carolina (2019-21) with 150 tackles (79 solos, 71 assists), 21.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 27 games for the Chanticleers. He was a two-time All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention and Third Team All-Sun Belt Conference by Phil Steele in 2020.
