The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series visited Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon in the Charbroil 300. Qualifying was cancelled due to rain. Justin Allgaier started the race on the pole, with Corey Day starting second.
Inclement weather made it challenging to get this race in at full distance. Before the race started, there was a moment of silence for NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 41. Many of the cars out on the track paid tribute to him with his name, Rowdy, and his No. 8 stickers on their cars.
The race went 27 laps before rain picked up, and the race was red-flagged for over four hours. Once the rain moved out, the jet dryers were out and took several hours to dry the track. Once the track was dry, fog moved in and made it challenging for the spotters. Justin Allgaier was still leading the race when it resumed on lap 38. Allgaier would lose the lead to Connor Zilisch, who would go on to win the first stage.
In the second stage, there was a three-car crash on lap 53. Sheldon Creed and Brandon Jones made contact, sending him spinning and collecting Harrison Burton and Brent Crews. It was one of five cautions throughout the race. On lap 62, Sam Mayer slammed the wall hard at Turn 2. Late in the stage, there was fluid on the racetrack, and mist began to wet the track. They were able to complete the second stage, which was won by Ross Chastain.
Shortly after the stage ended, the cars went to pit road, and the race was called. Ross Chastain was declared the winner. It was his third-career O’Reilly Auto Parts Series win. Jesse Love, Austin Hill, William Sawalich, and Corey Day rounded out the top five. Connor Zilisch, Ryan Sieg, Cole Custer, Carson Kvapil, and Rajah Caruth completed the top ten.
