The Houston Gamblers signed quarterback John Rhys Plumlee on Saturday according to the UFL Transactions page.
John Rhys Plumlee is six foot and weighs 200 pounds. The 25-year-old from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. He also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, and returned to Pittsburgh for his second stint. Plumlee completed 3 of 4 passes (75%) for 32 yards, one carry for four yards, eight kick returns for 173 yards, two punt returns for 16 yards, and one tackle (1 assist) in five preseason games.
Collegiately, Plumlee played quarterback and wide receiver at Ole Miss (2019-21), where he completed 85 of 158 passes (53.8%) for 981 yards, five touchdowns, three interceptions, 188 carries for 1,189 yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 25 catches for 280 yards, one kick return for 14 yards, and one tackle (1 assist) in 29 games for the Rebels.
Then, he transferred to the University of Central Florida (2022-23), completing 379 of 602 passes (63%) for 4,857 yards, 29 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, 265 carries for 1,367 yards, 16 rushing touchdowns, one catch for 16 yards, and one tackle (1 assist) in 23 games for the Knights. He was named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2023.
