The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive back Austin McKinney and placed defensive back Sheldrick Redwine on the retired list on Friday.

Austin McKinney is six foot two and weighs 200 pounds. A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, McKinney attended the Cleveland Browns rookie minicamp in 2025.

Collegiately, McKinney spent two seasons at Saginaw Valley State University (2017-18), playing two games for the Cardinals. Next, he transferred to Saddleback College (2021-22) with 33 tackles (17 solos, 16 assists), one tackle for loss, three interceptions, one fumble recovery, and four pass breakups in nine games for the Bobcats. He was named the team’s defensive MVP.

Then, he transferred to Northwest Missouri State University (2023-24) with 54 tackles (44 solos, 10 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception, 16 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 22 games for the Bearcats.

Sheldrick Redwine is six foot and weighs 196 pounds. The 29-year-old from Miami, Florida, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 14, 2025. In 2025, he made eight tackles in four games.

The Cleveland Browns drafted Redwine in the fourth round (119th pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He also spent time with the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys, and the Washington Commanders. Redwine made 77 tackles (52 solos, 25 assists), half a sack, one interception for eight yards, and three pass breakups in 34 games, of which eight were starts in his NFL career.

Collegiately, Redwine played four seasons at Miami (FL) (2015-18) with 164 tackles (98 solos, 66 assists), seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, five interceptions for 76 yards, 10 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 49 games for the Hurricanes. He was named an All-ACC Honorable Mention in 2018.
