The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (2-8) visited SRP Park on Tuesday night to begin a six-game series against the Augusta GreenJackets (5-5). Jagger Beck was on the mound for Fayetteville against Aiven Cabral of Augusta.
In the bottom of the first inning, Augusta had a runner on third base with one out when Luis Guanipa grounded out to second baseman Nick Monistere. Tate Southisene scored to give the GreenJackets a 1-0 lead. A groundout by Caden Merritt ended the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Augusta had runners on second and third base when Junior Garcia hit a ground ball RBI single to left field. Juan Mateo scored for a 2-0 lead. Dallas Macias followed up with an RBI single to left field. Nick Montgomery scored for a 3-0 lead.
With one out, Tate Southisene grounded out to shortstop German Ramierz for a 4-0 lead. Beck struck out Alex Lodise, and the inning was over.
At the top of the fourth inning with one out, Fayetteville second baseman Nick Monistere hit a solo home run to center field. The Woodpeckers trailed the GreenJackets 4-1. It was Monistere’s first home run of the season. With runners on first and second base and two outs, German Ramirez struck out swinging, and the inning was over.
Jagger Beck pitched three innings, allowing four hits, four runs, one walk, and three strikeouts, throwing 42 pitches, of which 27 were strikes. Ryan Verdugo was the new pitcher for Fayetteville in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Verdugo pitched four scoreless innings, allowing four walks and five strikeouts, throwing 69 pitches, of which 36 were strikes. Leomar Rosario was the new pitcher for Fayetteville in the bottom of the eighth inning. During the inning, catcher Arturo Flores was injured and replaced with Yosweld Vasquez, and Rosario was replaced by shortstop German Ramirez. They were able to get three outs.
At the top of the ninth inning with one out, Fayetteville left fielder Juan Sierra hit a solo home run to center field. It was his third home run of the season. That would be all for the Woodpeckers as they lost the GreenJackets by the final score of 4-2.
Fayetteville finished the night with five hits, went 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position, and left nine men on base. Juan Sierra went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, and an RBI. The loss went to Fayetteville starter Jagger Beck, and the win went to Augusta starter Aiven Cabral.
