The Houston Gamblers released defensive back Markel Roby on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Markel Roby is six foot and weighs 190 pounds. The 26-year-old from New Orleans, Louisiana, re-signed with the Gamblers on July 9, 2025. In 2026, he made one tackle (1 solo) and one pass breakup against the Dallas Renegades last Saturday.
Roby worked out for NFL Scouts on December 12, 2022. He signed with the Houston Gamblers on December 26, 2023, before the Gamblers were rebranded as the Roughnecks. In 2024, Roby made 58 tackles (36 solos, 22 assists), one tackle for loss, one sack, three interceptions, 8 pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 10 games.
The Roughnecks re-signed Roby on August 14, 2024. In 2025, he made 44 tackles (26 solos, 18 assists), one tackle for loss, and one sack in seven games.
Collegiately, Roby played three seasons at Briar Cliff University (2017-19) with 162 tackles (99 solos, 63 assists), six tackles for loss, six interceptions, two touchdowns, and 11 pass breakups in 28 games for the Chargers. He was a two-time All-GPAC Honorable Mention.
