The Rhein Fire of the American Football League Europe signed defensive back Christian Matthew on Sunday.

Christian Matthew is six foot two and weighs 195 pounds. The 29-year-old from Miami, Florida, was drafted by the Orlando Storm in the 2026 UFL Draft. He attended training camp, and the Storm released him on March 19, 2026.

The Arizona Cardinals drafted Matthew in the seventh round (244th pick) of the 2022 NFL Draft. Matthew also spent time with the Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, and the Dallas Cowboys. He made 20 tackles (13 solos, 7 assists) and three pass breakups in 20-career NFL games. The Dallas Cowboys signed Matthew on July 30, 2025. In 2025, he made three tackles (3 solos) in two preseason games. The Cowboys released him on September 9, 2025.

Collegiately, Matthew spent three seasons at Georgia Southern University (2015-17) with 19 tackles (13 solos, 6 assists), half a tackle for loss, one interception, and four pass breakups in nine games for the Eagles.

Next, he transferred to Samford University (2018-19) with 29 tackles (19 solos, 10 assists), two tackles for loss, and four pass breakups in 19 games for the Bulldogs. Then, he transferred to Valdosta State University (2020-21), where he was named First Team All-GSC in 2021 after finishing the season with a career-high 37 tackles (26 solos, 11 assists), half a tackle for loss, one interception for 40 yards, one touchdown, 16 pass breakups, and one blocked kick in 14 games for the Blazers.
