Ottawa Redblacks sign DL Marcel Walker-Burgess and DB Chris Mills

The Ottawa Redblacks signed defensive lineman Marcel Walker-Burgess and defensive back Chris Mills on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Marcel Walker-Burgess is six foot two and weighs 252 pounds. The 24-year-old from Piscataway, New Jersey, signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on May 2, 2025. He attended training camp, and the Tiger-Cats released him on May 14, 2025.

Collegiately, Walker-Burgess played one season at Southern Connecticut State University in 2021 with 17 tackles (9 solos, 8 assists), four tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, and one pass breakup in 10 games for the Owls.

Next, he transferred to Nevada (2022-23) with 70 tackles (43 solos, 27 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and one pass breakup in 22 games for the Wolfpack.

Then, Walker-Burgess transferred to Ohio in 2024 with 56 tackles (33 solos, 23 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, one interception for one yard, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 14 games for the Bobcats. He helped the Bobcats win the MAC Championship in 2024.

Chris Mills is six foot and weighs 195 pounds. A native of Converse, Texas, Mills attended the New England Patriots rookie minicamp in 2025.

Collegiately, Mills spent two seasons at the University of Missouri (2019-20) with five tackles (3 solos, 2 assists) in eight games for the Tigers. Then, he transferred to Texas State University (2021-24) with 115 tackles (77 solos, 38 assists), five tackles for loss, half a sack, one interception, 21 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one punt return for two yards in 48 games for the Bobcats.

In 2022, he had a career-high 42 tackles (25 solos, 17 assists), one tackle for loss, seven pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 11 games. In this final collegiate season in 2024, he made 33 tackles (26 solos, 7 assists), three tackles for loss, half a sack, one interception, and nine pass breakups in 13 games.
