The Houston Gamblers released quarterback Donovan Smith on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page. This release comes after the Gamblers signed quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa on Saturday.

Donovan Smith is six foot four and weighs 219 pounds. The 24-year-old from Las Vegas, Nevada, attended the Dallas Cowboys rookie minicamp in 2025. The Houston Gamblers drafted Smith in the 2026 UFL Quarterback Draft and attended training camp.

Collegiately, Smith spent three seasons at Texas Tech (2020-22), completing 231 of 359 passes (64.3%) for 2,686 yards, 19 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 133 carries for 270 yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, one catch for 15 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle (1 solo) in 23 games for the Red Raiders.

Then, he transferred to Houston (2023-24), completing 343 of 530 passes (65%) for 3,668 yards, 26 touchdowns, 21 interceptions, 203 carries for 575 yards, nine rushing touchdowns, one catch for 28 yards, and one touchdown in 21 games for the Cougars.
