The Toronto Argonauts placed long snapper Simon Chaves on the retired list on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Simon Chaves is five foot eleven and weighs 200 pounds. The 27-year-old from Guelph, Ontario, was acquired from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on August 21, 2025, for a 2027 seventh-round draft pick. Chaves played four games for Toronto. Between Ottawa, Hamilton, and Toronto, Chaves played a total of 12 games.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed Chaves as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He returned to the University of Guelph for his final two seasons in 2022 and 2023.

Then, Chaves signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on December 6, 2023. Chaves appeared in two preseason games for the Redblacks in 2024 with one tackle on special teams. The Redblacks released him on June 1, 2024.

The Edmonton Elks signed Chaves on July 15, 2024, and he spent a week on the practice squad before the Elks released him on July 21, 2024. The Toronto Argonauts signed Chaves on October 7, 2024. In 2024, he dressed for one regular-season game. The Argonauts released him on November 18, 2024.

The Toronto Argonauts re-signed Chaves on November 26, 2024. In 2025, he played two preseason games. The Argonauts released him on May 31, 2025.

The Ottawa Redblacks signed Chaves on June 9, 2025. In 2025, he played six games. The Redblacks released him on July 29, 2025. He signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on August 5, 2025. He played two games in Hamilton.

Collegiately, Chaves played seven seasons at the University of Guelph (2017-23) with 15 tackles (10 solos, 5 assists) in 27 games for the Gryphons.
