The Edmonton Elks signed defensive back Michael Dowell on Wednesday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Michael Dowell is six foot one and weighs 221 pounds. The 26-year-old from North Ridgeville, Ohio, re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks on January 7, 2025. In 2025, he made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Seahawks released him on August 14, 2025.
The Cincinnati Bengals signed Dowell as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. In 2024, he made eight tackles (6 solos, 2 assists) in three preseason games. The Bengals released him on August 23, 2024. The Seattle Seahawks signed Dowell to the practice squad on October 30, 2024.
Collegiately, Dowell spent three seasons at Michigan State University (2019-21) with 82 tackles (53 solos, 29 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 32 games for the Spartans. In 2021, he made 40 tackles (26 solos, 14 assists), two tackles for loss, and three pass breakups in 12 games.
Then, he transferred to Miami University (OH) (2022-23) with 158 tackles (82 solos, 56 assists), 8.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions for 17 yards, 13 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 26 games for the Redhawks.
In 2022, he had a career-high 97 tackles (49 solos, 48 assists), five tackles for loss, two sacks, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 13 games. In his final collegiate season in 2023, he made 61 tackles (33 solos, 28 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions for 17 yards, seven pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 13 games.
