The Dallas Renegades released defensive back D.J. James on Friday according to the UFL Transactions page.
D.J. James is six foot and weighs 184 pounds. The 24-year-old from Mobile, Alabama, was drafted by the Dallas Renegades in the 2026 UFL Draft.
The Seattle Seahawks drafted James in the sixth round (192nd pick) of the 2024 NFL Draft. In 2024, he made nine tackles (6 solos, 3 assists), one sack, one quarterback hit, and one pass breakup in three preseason games. The Seahawks released him on August 27, 2024.
The New England Patriots signed James to the practice squad on September 16, 2024. They re-signed him on January 6, 2025. In 2025, he made three tackles (3 solos) and one pass breakup in two preseason games. James appeared in one regular-season game with one tackle (1 solo).
Collegiately, James spent three seasons at Oregon (2021-23) with 73 tackles (53 solos, 20 assists), half a tackle for loss, two interceptions for 19 yards, and six pass breakups in 32 games for the Ducks. In 2021, he had a career-high 47 tackles (34 solos, 13 assists), half a tackle for loss, two interceptions for 19 yards, and four pass breakups in 12 games.
Then, he transferred to Auburn (2022-23) with 75 tackles (55 solos, 20 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions for 30 yards, one touchdown, and 18 pass breakups in 24 games for the Tigers. In 2022, he was named Second Team All-SEC after finishing the season with 37 tackles (25 solos, 12 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception for 27 yards, one touchdown, and eight pass breakups in 12 games.
