Former Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Edmonton Elks wide receiver Steven Dunbar. Jr announced his retirement on Tuesday via his X account (formerly Twitter).
Steven Dunbar Jr. is six foot three and weighs 202 pounds. The 30-year-old from New Orleans, Louisiana, signed with the Edmonton Elks on February 13, 2025. It was his second stint in Edmonton. In 2025, he made 44 catches for 511 yards, three touchdowns, and two carries for 20 yards in 10 games.
The San Francisco 49ers signed Dunbar Jr. as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2018. In 2018, he made four catches for 36 yards and one tackle (1 solo) in four preseason games. The 49ers released him on April 29, 2019. He also spent time with the Denver Broncos and the Dallas Renegades (XFL).
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Dunbar Jr. on January 30, 2020. However, the season was canceled. Dunbar Jr. returned to Hamilton in 2021. Dunbar Jr. played two seasons in Hamilton with 116 catches for 1,630 yards, ten touchdowns, and three tackles in 29 games for the Ticats. He was named a CFL East All-Star in 2022.
The Edmonton Elks signed Dunbar Jr. on February 7, 2023. He made 39 catches for 536 yards, five touchdowns, and two tackles in 13 games for the Elks in 2023.
The Houston Roughnecks signed Dunbar Jr. on January 22, 2024. In 2024, he made one catch for 19 yards and one tackle (1 assist) in one game. The Roughnecks released him on April 15, 2024.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Dunbar Jr. on May 29, 2024. It was his second stint in Hamilton. In 2024, he made 75 catches for 1,159 yards, five touchdowns, one tackle, and one tackle on special teams in 18 games.
Collegiately, Dunbar Jr. played four seasons at Houston (2014-17) with 180 catches for 2,430 yards, 11 touchdowns, three kick returns for 51 yards, two punt returns for six yards, and two tackles (2 solos) in 51 games for the Cougars. He was an AAC Honorable Mention in 2017.
