The Toronto Argonauts released linebacker Wynton McManis on Tuesday.
Wynton McManis is six foot one and weighs 225 pounds. The 31-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee, re-signed with the Argonauts on February 2, 2025. In 2025, he made 62 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 13 games.
McManis signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2016. In 2016, he made nine tackles (8 solos, 1 assist) in three preseason games. He later played in two regular-season games for the 49ers with no stats. The 49ers released him on May 7, 2017.
Next, McManis signed with the Calgary Stampeders on June 17, 2017. He played three seasons in Calgary (2017-19) with 104 tackles, 41 tackles on special teams, four sacks, and two forced fumbles in 43 games. Then, McManis signed with the New Orleans Saints on August 29, 2020.
He was released by the Saints on September 5, 2020, and re-signed with them on January 20, 2021. In 2021, he made 12 tackles (9 solos, 3 assists) and three pass breakups in two preseason games. McManis would play one regular-season game with no stats. The Saints released him again on October 12, 2021. He would later spend time with the Miami Dolphins.
The Toronto Argonauts signed McManis on February 8, 2022. In 2022, McManis helped the Argos win the Grey Cup with 95 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 14 games in 2022. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2022.
In 2023, McManis made 79 tackles, one tackle on special teams, four sacks, four interceptions, and two touchdowns in 16 games on his way to being named a CFL East All-Star and CFL All-Star.
In 2024, he made 57 tackles, three tackles on special teams, one sack, one interception, and one touchdown in 12 games for the Argos in 2024. He missed most of the season with a groin injury.
In the 111th Grey Cup, McManis made six tackles and one interception for 58 yards, helping the Argonauts defeat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 41-24 for their second Grey Cup title in three seasons.
Collegiately, McManis played four seasons at the University of Memphis (2012-15) with 110 tackles (75 solos, 35 assists), nine tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception for four yards, one touchdown, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one punt return for 16 yards, and one blocked punt in 47 games for the Tigers.
