The Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signed running back A.J. Ouellette through the 2026 season on Sunday.
A.J. Ouellette is five foot nine and weighs 208 pounds. The 30-year-old from Covington, Ohio, had 248 carries for 1,222 yards, eight rushing touchdowns, 35 catches for 250 yards, and one touchdown in 17 games.
In the Grey Cup playoffs, he had 17 carries for 113 yards and two catches for 13 yards against the B.C. Lions in the Western Semi-Final, and had 17 carries for 83 yards, one rushing touchdown, and one catch for 32 yards against the Montreal Alouettes, helping the Roughriders win the 112th Grey Cup.
The New Orleans Saints signed Ouellette as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2019. In 2019, Ouellette had 10 carries for 24 yards and two catches for seven yards in four preseason games. The Saints released him on May 28, 2019. He also spent time with the Cleveland Browns. The Toronto Argonauts signed Ouellette on September 17, 2019.
In 2022, Ouellette had 98 carries for 516 yards, two touchdowns, 38 catches for 350 yards, and one touchdown in 13 games for Toronto in 2022. In the 109th Grey Cup, Ouellette had six carries for 24 yards and two touchdowns to help the Argos win the championship over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 24-23.
In 2023, he had 178 carries for 1,009 yards, eight touchdowns, 16 catches for 163 yards, and two touchdowns in 15 games. In three seasons for the Argonauts, Ouellette had 322 carries for 1,782 yards, 10 touchdowns, 59 catches for 552 yards, four touchdowns, and two kick returns for 15 yards in 31 games.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Ouellette on February 13, 2024. In 2024, he had 130 carries for 550 yards, three touchdowns, and 16 catches for 147 yards in eight games, missing most of the season with a hip injury.
Collegiately, Ouellette played five seasons at Ohio (2014-18) with 719 carries for 3,829 yards, 32 touchdowns, 64 catches for 516 yards, six touchdowns, and one kick return for 13 yards in 50 games for the Bobcats. He was named Second Team All-MAC Offense in 2017.
In his final season, Ouellette had 213 carries for 1,306 yards, 12 touchdowns, 21 catches for 212 yards, and two touchdowns in 13 games. In the 2018 DXL Frisco Bowl, Ouellette had 29 carries for 164 yards, and two catches for 33 yards as the Bobcats shut out San Diego State 27-0. Ouellette was named the DXL Frisco Bowl MVP.
