The Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signed defensive back DaMarcus Fields to a two-year contract extension through the 2027 season on Friday.
DaMarcus Fields is six foot and weighs 200 pounds. The 27-year-old from Taylor, Texas, made 57 tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 18 games in 2025. In the Grey Cup playoffs, Fields made five tackles and one tackle on special teams when the Roughriders won the 112th Grey Cup over the Montreal Alouettes.
The New Orleans Saints signed Fields as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. In 2022, Fields made six tackles (6 solos) and three pass breakups in three preseason games. The Saints released him on August 30, 2022, and re-signed him to the practice squad a day later.
Fields appeared in two regular-season games in 2022. The Saints released him on October 4, 2022. The Washington Commanders signed Fields to the practice squad on October 26, 2022. They re-signed him on January 9, 2023. In 2023, he made six tackles (5 solos, 1 assist) in three preseason games. The Commanders released him on August 28, 2023.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Fields on March 25, 2024. In 2024, Fields made 49 tackles, four tackles on special teams, one sack, and one interception in 18 games.
Collegiately, Fields played five seasons at Texas Tech (2017-21) with 223 tackles (182 solos, 41 assists), 13.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, four interceptions for 155 yards, one touchdown, 49 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 55 games for the Red Raiders.
In his senior season, Fields made 50 tackles (41 solos, 9 assists), four tackles for loss, 11 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 12 games. He was named Second Team All-Big 12 in 2021 and was a three-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention by the coaches (2018-20). Fields finished his collegiate career ranked second in the nation for passes defended (49). It marked the most for a Texas Tech player over his career dating back to 2000.
