The Saskatchewan Roughriders released wide receiver Shawn Bane Jr. on Wednesday.
Shawn Bane Jr. is five foot nine and weighs 178 pounds. The 30-year-old from Sarasota, Florida, made four catches for 28 yards, seven kick returns for 172 yards, and eight catches for 88 yards in four games. He missed most of the season with a knee injury.
The Atlanta Falcons signed Bane Jr. as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2019. In 2019, he made three catches for 39 yards in four preseason games. The Falcons released him on August 24, 2019. The Calgary Stampeders signed Bane Jr. on February 7, 2020.
However, the season was canceled due to the pandemic, and Bane Jr. returned to the team in 2021. Bane Jr. played two seasons in Calgary with 24 catches for 388 yards (16.2 AVG), two touchdowns, one carry for -1 yard, and 14 kick returns for 294 yards (21 AVG) in 13 games.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Bane Jr. as a free agent on February 14, 2023. In 2023, he made 93 catches for 1,104 yards (11.9 AVG), four touchdowns, and five carries for 19 yards (3.8 AVG) in 18 games.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signed Bane Jr. on February 1, 2024. In 2024, he made 49 catches for 581 yards, five touchdowns, two carries for -2 yards, seven kick returns for 156 yards, and four punt returns for 45 yards in 14 games.
Collegiately, Bane Jr. played four seasons at Northwest Missouri State (2015-18) with 212 catches for 3,363 yards, 31 touchdowns, 18 carries for 51 yards, one touchdown, 58 kick returns for 1,286 yards, 74 punt returns for 878 yards, and two touchdowns in 48 games for the Bearcats. He is a three-time Second Team All-MIAA.
