The Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signed defensive back Nelson Lokombo to a one-year contract extension through the 2026 season on Tuesday. Lokombo was scheduled to be a free agent next month.
Nelson Lokombo is five foot eleven and weighs 190 pounds. The 26-year-old Abbotsford, British Columbia, re-signed with the Roughriders on January 24, 2025. In 2025, he made 21 tackles, two tackles on special teams, five pass breakups, and one interception in 11 games. He also played in two playoff games when the Roughriders won the 112th Grey Cup over the Montreal Alouettes.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders drafted Lokombo in the first round (2nd pick) of the 2021 CFL Draft. In 2022, Lokombo made 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble in 12 games. In 2023, he made five tackles and four tackles on special teams in 11 games.
Lokombo re-signed with the Roughriders on January 29, 2024. In 2024, he made 44 tackles, one tackle on special teams, one sack, and one forced fumble in 18 games.
Collegiately, Lokombo played three seasons at the University of Saskatchewan (2017-19) with 101 tackles (89 solos, 26 assists), six tackles for loss, three sacks, ten interceptions for 260 yards, two touchdowns, 25 pass breakups, and three forced fumbles in 30 games for the Huskies. He was named First Team All-Canadian, Canada West All-Star, Canada West’s Outstanding Defensive Player, and won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2019.
