The search for the next offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles is well underway. The Eagles are looking for their fifth offensive coordinator in five seasons. The team has already interviewed candidates from Brian Daboll, Mike McDaniel, Matt Nagy, Arthur Smith, and Declan Doyle.
Former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo was fired on January 13, 2026, when they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round. The Eagles well under-performed expectations after the team won Super Bowl LIX a year ago, in which Kellen Moore was the offensive coordinator and went on to become a head coach for the New Orleans Saints.
The same can be said for Shane Steichen, who was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator for two seasons before becoming the coach of the Indianapolis Colts after the Eagles lost Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs.
As of late, most of the coordinators are declining the job for various reasons. The Eagles are expanding their search for their next offensive coordinator. What if the Eagles looked outside of the NFL for its next offensive coordinator job? There might be one guy out there, and the Eagles should at least reach out to him to see if he is interested, and his name is Skip Holtz.
Skip Holtz is 61 years old and from Willimantic, Connecticut. He was named the head coach of the Birmingham Stallions on January 20, 2022. Holtz led the Stallions to a 33-7 record and 6-1 in the playoffs in four seasons, winning two USFL championships in 2022 and 2023, and the UFL title in 2024. Holtz was also named the USFL Coach of the Year in 2023.
In college, Holtz began his coaching career as a Graduate assistant at Florida State in 1987. He also had stops at Colorado State, Notre Dame, Connecticut, South Carolina, East Carolina, South Florida, and Louisiana Tech.
He went 152-121, winning two Conference USA championships, two Conference USA East Divisions, three Conference USA West Divisions, Conference USA Coach of the Year in 2016, and the Atlantic 10 New England Division in 1998. He won three bowl games at Louisiana Tech, including the Heart of Dallas Bowl, Armed Forces Bowl, and the Independence Bowl.
Holtz is not only a good candidate, but he is also good at developing players. A total of 14 players from the Stallions have made it to the NFL, including Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, Denver Broncos linebacker Dondrea Tillman, and San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Khalil Davis. The other players who also made it to the NFL were quarterback Alex McGough and Adrian Martinez, both of whom won league MVP honors.
With the talent the Eagles have, Holtz, who is an offensive coach and has called plays, can work with and develop the players to reach their full potential. The Eagles need someone who can help get the offense back on track, and Holtz is a guy I think who can do the job and lead them back to the Super Bowl.
