The Ottawa Redblacks re-signed defensive lineman Aidan John to a one-year contract extension through the 2026 season on Tuesday. John was set to be a free agent next month.

Aidan John is six foot three and weighs 248 pounds. The 25-year-old from Halifax, Nova Scotia, made 12 tackles and three tackles on special teams in 11 games in 2025.

The Ottawa Redblacks drafted John in the third round (19th pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, John made three tackles and one tackle on special teams in six games. In 2024, he made 17 tackles, five tackles on special teams, and four sacks in 18 games.

Collegiately, John spent one season at the University of Western Ontario in 2018. He did not play for the Mustangs. Then, he transferred to St. Mary’s University (2019-22) with 81 tackles (50 solos, 31 assists), 12 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in 15 games for the Huskies.
