The Toronto Argonauts signed defensive lineman Charlie Looes and announced that defensive lineman Tyson Hergott has retired on Monday.
Charlie Looes is six foot three and weighs 283 pounds. The 24-year-old from Hillsdale, New Jersey, started in collegiate career at Dartmouth University (2021-23) with 92 tackles (44 solos, 48 assists), 15 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 30 games for the Big Green.
In 2023, Looes was named First Team All-Ivy League, Division I All-New England Team, a Bushnell Cup Finalist, and a winner of the Gold Helmet Award after finishing the season with a career-high 43 tackles (19 solos, 24 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick in 10 games.
Then, he transferred to Rice University in 2024, tying his record with 43 tackles (19 solos, 24 assists), 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 12 games for the Owls.
Tyson Hergott is six foot three and weighs 246 pounds. The 24-year-old from Waterloo, Ontario, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the third round (24th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. In 2024, he made two tackles and seven tackles on special teams in 15 games when the Argonauts won the 111th Grey Cup. In 2025, he made two tackles on special teams in four games.
Collegiately, Hergott played three seasons at the University of Waterloo (2019, 2022-23) with 89 tackles (67 solos, 22 assists), 26.5 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, one interception, six pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and one blocked kick in 23 games for the Warriors.
In 2023, Hergott made 53 tackles (36 solos, 17 assists), 13.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, and three forced fumbles in nine games. He was named First Team U Sports All-Canadian after the season.
