The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive tackle Jaylen Pate and defensive back Garnett Hollis Jr. on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Jaylen Pate is six foot three and weighs 272 pounds. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Pate began his collegiate career at Wyoming (2019-21) with 23 tackles (15 solos, 8 assists), one tackle for loss, half a sack, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery in 18 games for the Cowboys.
Then, he transferred to Northwestern (2022-24) with 55 tackles (34 solos, 21 assists), nine tackles for loss, three sacks, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery in 33 games for the Wildcats. In 2023, he had a career-high 27 tackles (13 solos, 14 assists), three tackles for loss, three sacks, and one forced fumble in 13 games.
Garnett Hollis Jr. is six foot one and weighs 199 pounds. The 23-year-old from Nashville, Tennessee, signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2025. He was released four days later. He signed with the Green Bay Packers on July 26, 2025. In 2025, he played in two preseason games with no stats. The Packers released him on August 18, 2025.
The Buffalo Bills signed Hollis Jr. on August 23, 2025. He made one pass breakup in one preseason game. The Bills released him on August 24, 2025.
Collegiately, Hollis Jr. spent four seasons at Northwestern (2020-23) with 78 tackles (50 solos, 28 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 26 games for the Wildcats. In 2023, he had a career-high 49 tackles (33 solos, 16 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, one interception, four pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 13 games.
Then, he transferred to West Virginia in 2024 with 46 tackles (27 solos, 19 assists), one tackle for loss, six pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 13 games for the Mountaineers.
