The B.C. Lions re-signed offensive lineman Chris Schleuger to a two-year contract extension through the 2027 season on Monday.
Chris Schleuger is six foot three and weighs 302 pounds. The 30-year-old from Wesley, Iowa, re-signed with the Lions on January 31, 2025. In 2025, he started 14 games at right tackle and two starts in the Grey Cup playoffs. B.C.’s offense averaged 29.8 points per game, 430.2 net offense per game, 113.4 rushing yards per game, 325.4 passing yards per game, 59 touchdowns, and allowed 20 sacks.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Schleuger as an undrafted free agent on April 28, 2018. He also had stints with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Birmingham Iron (AAF). The Montreal Alouettes signed Schleuger on May 19, 2019. Schleuger played 22 games in three seasons in Montreal.
The B.C. Lions signed Schleuger on February 14, 2023. In 2023, B.C.’s offense finished third in average offense points (26.1), touchdowns (45), average net offense (371.2), first in average passing yards (315.1), ninth in average rushing yards (77.3), and sixth in sacks allowed (53).
In 2024, Schleuger started nine games. B.C.’s offense averaged 24.9 points per game, 364.0 net offense per game, 101 yards per game, 283.3 passing yards per game, 42 touchdowns, and allowed 43 sacks.
Collegiately, Schleuger played one season at Iowa Western Community College in 2014 as a tight end, making six catches for 41 yards in three games for the Reivers. Next, he transferred to Northern Iowa in 2015, playing left tackle in 14 games for the Panthers. In 2015, Northern Iowa averaged 29.50 points per game, 233.3 rushing yards per game, 148.79 passing yards per game, 382.1 total yards per game, 53 touchdowns, and allowed 38 sacks, finishing 9-5 for the season.
Then, he transferred to the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 2017, playing 13 games, of which 12 were starts at left guard. In 2017, UAB averaged 180.5 passing yards per game, 183.2 rushing yards per game, 363.8 total yards per game, and 43 touchdowns. In addition, UAB’s offense tied a school mark with 27 rushing touchdowns while recording a team-high 30 knockdown blocks. He was named Second Team All-Conference USA in 2017.
