TCU stuns USC in overtime to win the Valero Alamo Bowl

The TCU Horned Frogs (9-4) took on the USC Trojans (9-4) on Tuesday night in the Valero Alamo Bowl from The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The Horned Frogs led the Trojans 14-13 at halftime. The game went back and forth in the second half.

In the third quarter, USC quarterback Jayden Maiava threw a four-yard touchdown pass to James Johnson, plus getting a two-point conversion for a 21-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, TCU came back to score 10 points, while USC scored three points, as the game was tied 24-24, sending the game to overtime.

In overtime, USC kicker Ryon Sayeri made a 22-yard field goal to give them a 27-24 lead. TCU running back Jeremy Payne ended the game with a 35-yard touchdown run to end the game. The Horned Frogs defeated the Trojans 30-27. It was TCU’s second straight bowl victory.

TCU’s offense had 375 yards (258 yards passing, 117 yards rushing), 20 first downs, and the team was penalized 10 times for 81 yards. Quarterback Ken Seals completed 29 of 40 passes (73%) for 258 yards, one touchdown, one interception, nine carries for -2 yards, and one rushing touchdown.

Running back Jeremy Payne had 13 carries for 73 yards, one rushing touchdown, six catches for 50 yards, and one touchdown, while Jon Denman had six carries for 31 yards, one rushing touchdown, and two catches for four yards. Wide receiver Eric McAlister made eight catches for 69 yards.

Kicker Kyle Lemmermann made one field goal for 27 yards and made three extra points. The defense made 63 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions, and two pass breakups.

USC’s offense had 392 yards (280 yards passing, 112 yards rushing), 19 first downs, and the team was penalized seven times for 50 yards. Quarterback Jayden Maiava completed 18 of 30 passes (60%) for 280 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and three carries for seven yards.

Running back King Miller had 25 carries for 99 yards, one rushing touchdown, and one catch for 15 yards. Wide receiver Tanook Hines made six catches for 163 yards, while Jaden Richardson made two catches for 31 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker Ryon Sayeri made 4 of 4 field goals (100%) with a long of 41 yards, and made one extra point. The defense made 64 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, and four pass breakups.
