The Toronto Argonauts signed offensive lineman Gavin Coakes on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Gavin Coakes is six foot four and weighs 315 pounds. The 22-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the fourth round (29th pick) of the 2025 CFL Draft. Coakes did not sign with the Argonauts and returned to UBC for his final collegiate season.

Collegiately, Coakes played five seasons at the University of Alberta (2021-25), playing 42 games for the Thunderbirds. In 2024, UBC averaged 27.67 points per game, 148.4 rushing yards per game, 310.78 passing yards per game, 442.4 total yards per game, 29 touchdowns, and allowed 10 sacks, finishing 5-4 for the season.

In 2025, UBC averaged 19.44 points per game, 348.9 total yards per game, 307.44 passing yards per game, 69.8 rushing yards per game, 21 touchdowns, 19 of 34 in third-down conversions, and allowed 22 sacks, finishing 3-6 for the season.
