The Virginia Cavaliers (11-3) took on the Missouri Tigers (8-5) on Saturday night in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl from EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
This was a low-scoring game with Missouri leading Virginia 7-3 at halftime. In the second half, Virginia scored 10 more points and shut out Missouri. The Cavaliers defeated the Tigers 13-7. For the first time in the program’s 136-year history, they have 11 wins for the season.
Virginia’s offense had 308 yards (198 yards passing, 110 yards rushing), 18 first downs, and the team was penalized four times for 30 yards. Quarterback Chandler Morris completed 25 of 38 passes (65.8%) for 198 yards.
Running back Harrison Waylee had 20 carries for 68 yards, one rushing touchdown, and three catches for 12 yards. Wide receiver Eli Wood made four catches for 71 yards. Kicker Will Bettridge made 2 of 3 field goals (66.7%) with a long of 42 yards, and made one extra point. The defense made 62 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, and three pass breakups.
Missouri’s offense had 260 yards (101 yards passing, 159 yards rushing), 13 first downs, and the team was penalized five times for 40 yards. Quarterback Matt Zollers completed 12 of 22 passes (54%) for 101 yards, one interception, and five carries for nine yards.
Running back Ahmad Hardy had 15 carries for 89 yards, while Jamal Roberts had 11 carries for 56 yards and one rushing touchdown. Wide receiver Donovan Olugbode made five catches for 49 yards. Kicker Oliver Robbins missed a field goal and made one extra point. The defense made 91 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, and one pass breakup.
