The Army Black Knights (7-6) took on the UConn Huskies (9-4) in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl on Saturday from Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. The game was close in the first half, with the Black Knights leading the Huskies 14-10 at halftime.
In the second half, Army blew the game away, scoring 27 points, while UConn scored six points. The Black Knights went on to win the Wasabi Fenway Bowl by the final score of 41-16 for their third straight bowl victory.
Army’s offense had 476 yards (108 yards passing, 368 yards rushing), 23 first downs, and the team had no penalties. Quarterback Cale Hellums completed 7 of 8 passes (87.5%) for 108 yards, one touchdown, 15 carries for 45 yards, and two rushing touchdowns.
Running back Godspower Nwawuihe had 12 carries for 171 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver Noah Short made seven catches for 108 yards and one touchdown. Kicker Dawson Jones made 5 of 6 extra points. The defense made 51 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and two pass breakups.
UConn’s offense had 267 yards (84 yards passing, 183 yards rushing), 14 first downs, and the team was penalized five times for 36 yards. Quarterback Ksaan Farrar completed 11 of 17 passes (64.7%) for 84 yards, seven carries for 13 yards, and one rushing touchdown.
Running back Cam Edwards had 11 carries for 108 yards and one rushing touchdown. Wide receiver Reymello Murphy made seven catches for 51 yards. Kicker Chris Freeman made one field goal for 49 yards and made one extra point. The defense made 66 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery.
