The Northwestern Wildcats (7-6) took on the Central Michigan Chippewas (7-6) on Friday afternoon in the GameAbove Sports Bowl from Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The Wildcats scored 21 points off turnovers in the first half, leading 21-0 at halftime.
They would score 13 points in the third quarter, and Central Michigan finally scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to prevent the shutout. The Wildcats went on to beat Central Michigan 34-7.
Northwestern’s offense had 313 yards (236 yards passing, 77 yards rushing), 18 first downs, and the team was penalized two times for 20 yards. Quarterback Preston Stone completed 19 of 31 passes (61.3%) for 226 yards, three touchdowns, and two carries for -2 yards.
Running back Caleb Komolafe had 15 carries for 55 yards, one rushing touchdown, and two catches for nine yards. Wide receiver Griffin Wilde made 10 catches for 97 yards, two touchdowns, while Lawson Albright made two catches for 27 yards and one touchdown.
Kicker Jack Olsen made 4 of 5 extra points. The defense made 69 tackles, six tackles for loss, five sacks, one interception, two pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, and one touchdown.
Central Michigan’s offense had 269 yards (178 yards passing, 91 yards rushing), 15 first downs, and the team was penalized five times for 46 yards. Quarterback Joe Labas completed 21 of 25 passes (84%) for 178 yards, one touchdown, and nine carries for -13 yards.
Running back Trey Cornist had 11 carries for 66 yards. Wide receiver Langston Lewis made eight catches for 83 yards, while Brock Townsend made one catch for three yards and one touchdown.
Kicker Cade Graham missed one field goal and made one extra point. The defense made 51 tackles, seven tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, and six pass breakups.
