The Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signed wide receiver Sameul Emilus to a two-year contract extension through the 2027 season on Wednesday.
Samuel Emilus is six foot one and weighs 200 pounds. The 28-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, made 37 catches for 588 yards, two touchdowns, and two tackles in seven games. In the 112th Grey Cup, Emilus made 10 catches for 108 yards to help the Roughriders win the Grey Cup over the Montreal Alouettes. His 10 catches set a Saskatchewan Grey Cup record, and he was named the Grey Cup Most Outstanding Canadian.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders drafted Emilus in the first round (7th pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft. In 2022, Emilus made 10 catches for 165 yards in 15 games. In 2022, he made 10 catches for 165 yards, one kick return for 10 yards, seven punt returns for 52 yards, and one tackle in 15 games.
In 2023, he made 70 catches for 1,097 yards, six touchdowns, and five tackles in 18 games. In 2024, he made 88 catches for 1,073 yards, five touchdowns, and three tackles in 17 games.
Collegiately, Emilus played one season at Vanier College in 2017 with 100 catches for 1,921 yards and 21 touchdowns for the Cheetahs.
Next, he transferred to the University of Massachusetts (2018-20) with 59 catches for 653 yards, seven touchdowns, two carries for -3 yards, six kick returns for 114 yards, four punt returns for 57 yards, and three tackles (3 solo) in 22 games for the Minutemen. He was named First Team-All Independent by Phil Steele as a punt returner in 2020.
Then, Emilus played his final collegiate season at Louisiana Tech in 2021 with 17 catches for 257 yards, three touchdowns, and three kick returns for 66 yards in eight games for the Bulldogs.
