The Toronto Argonauts re-signed linebacker Jack Cassar and Benjie Franklin, and signed offensive lineman Rush Reimer on Monday.
Jack Cassar is six foot four and weighs 240 pounds. The 28-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario, made two tackles, seven tackles on special teams, and one forced fumble in 12 games.
The Argonauts drafted Cassar in the second round (11th pick) of the 2020 CFL Draft. In 2021, Cassar made two tackles and nine tackles on special teams in eight games. In 2022, he made 11 tackles, 19 tackles on special teams, and one forced fumble in 12 games, helping them win the Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
A year later, he made two tackles and 14 tackles on special teams in 18 games. In 2024, Cassar made six tackles and 22 tackles on special teams in 18 games, helping the Argonauts win their second Grey Cup title in three seasons.
Collegiately, Cassar played four seasons at Carleton University (2016-19) with 188 tackles (126 solos, 62 assists), 20 tackles for loss, eight sacks, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and ten pass breakups in 31 games for the Ravens.
Benjie Franklin is six foot and weighs 172 pounds. The 27-year-old from Houston, Texas, made 60 tackles, one tackle on special teams, four interceptions, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 18 games.
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Franklin as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2022. In 2022, he made one tackle (1 solo) in four preseason games. The Jaguars released him on August 29, 2022. Next, he signed with the Green Bay Packers on September 1, 2022, and was placed on the practice squad. The Packers released him on October 18, 2022. The Seattle Seahawks signed Franklin on June 1, 2023. In 2023, he made six tackles (4 solos, 2 assists) in three preseason games. The Seahawks released him on August 23, 2023.
The Toronto Argonauts re-signed Franklin on April 2, 2024. In 2024, he made 59 tackles, two tackles on special teams, one sack, two interceptions, and three forced fumbles in 18 games, helping the Argonauts win the 111th Grey Cup.
Then, Franklin signed with the Toronto Argonauts on September 12, 2023. He played one game with four tackles and one interception for six yards. The Argonauts released him on November 11, 2023. The San Antonio Brahmas signed Franklin on January 19, 2024, and released him on March 10, 2024.
Collegiately, Franklin played two seasons at Navarro College (2016-17) with 80 tackles (69 solos, 11 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, nine interceptions for 24 yards, one forced fumble, and 30 pass breakups in 19 games for the Bulldogs. He was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2018.
Then, he transferred to Tarleton State (2019-21) with 103 tackles (83 solos, 20 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, eight interceptions for 225 yards, two touchdowns, 27 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks in 29 games for the Texans.
He was named Second Team D2CCA All-Region in 2019, Second Team All-LSC in 2019, and Fourth Team Phil Steele FCS All-WAC in 2021.
Rush Reimer is six foot five and weighs 304 pounds. A native of Camas, Washington, Reimer signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2025. In 2025, he played in one preseason game. The Bills released him on August 24, 2025.
Collegiately, Reimer spent four seasons at Montana State University (2020-23), starting 30 games for the Bobcats. In 2022, Montana State averaged 42.9 points per game, 494.8 total yards per game, 184 yards passing per game, 310.8 rushing yards per game, 75 touchdowns, and allowed 18 games, helping the Bobcats reach the FCS National Championship game against the North Dakota State Bisons.
From 2021-23, Montana State had a combined record of 32-7, 21-3 against the Big Sky Conference. Reimer was named Third Team All-American by Stats Perform, Second Team All-Big Sky Conference, Second Team All-American by the FCS Football Central and AP, Third Team All-American by Phil Steele, and First Team All-Big Sky Conference.
Then, he transferred to California in 2024, appearing in 12 games, of which 10 were starts for the Golden Bears. In 2024, California averaged 25.1 points per game, 380.2 total yards per game, 258.6 passing yards per game, 121.5 rushing yards per game, 36 touchdowns, and allowed 49 sacks, finishing 6-7 for the season.
