The B.C. Lions signed defensive back Tyson Russell on Wednesday.
Tyson Russell is five foot eleven and weighs 185 pounds. The 23-year-old from Plantation, Florida, signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent on July 18, 2025. In 2025, he made 10 tackles (8 solos, 2 assists), one interception, and one pass breakup in four preseason games. The Lions released him on August 26, 2025.
Collegiately, Russell spent four seasons at Vanderbilt (2021-24) with 92 tackles (63 solos, 29 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, and one interception in 44 games for the Commodores. In 2022, he had a career-high 32 tackles (23 solos, 9 assists), half a tackle for loss, and one pass breakup in 11 games.
His dad, Twan, was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round (148th pick) of the 1997 NFL Draft. He also played for the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons. He made 69 tackles (51 solos, 18 assists) and one fumble recovery in 78 games. He played college football with the Miami Hurricanes.
