The Montreal Alouettes re-signed linebacker Tyrell Richards to a contract extension through the 2026 season on Tuesday. Richards was scheduled to be a free agent in February.
Tyrell Richards is six foot four and weighs 240 pounds. The 27-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, made eight tackles, 30 tackles on special teams, and one forced fumble in 18 games in 2025.
The Montreal Alouettes drafted Richards in the first round (1st pick) of the 2022 CFL Draft. In 2022, Richards made five tackles and four tackles on special teams in seven games. In 2023, he made ten tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, one interception, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 11 games, helping the Alouettes win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Alouettes re-signed Richards on December 19, 2023. In 2024, Richards made four tackles, 10 tackles on special teams, and one sack in eight games.
Collegiately, Richards spent four seasons at Syracuse (2017-20) with 54 tackles (33 solos, 21 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one blocked punt in 31 games for the Orange. He was named the Joe Szombathy Award winner as the team’s top special teams player in 2019.
