The Hamilton Tiger-Cats re-signed defensive back Jamal Peters to a two-year contract extension through the 2027 season on Wednesday.
Jamal Peters is six foot two and weighs 220 pounds. The 28-year-old from Bassfield, Mississippi, re-signed with the Tiger-Cats on January 2, 2025. In 2025, he made 50 tackles and six interceptions in 16 games. Peters was named a CFL East All-Star and All-CFL Team.
Peters signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2019 but was released following an injury settlement on May 14, 2019. Then on February 2, 2021, he signed with the Toronto Argonauts and played two seasons with 88 tackles, one sack, seven interceptions for 167 yards, and one touchdown in 23 games.
In 2022, Peters had 57 tackles, one sack, six interceptions for 137 yards, and one touchdown in 15 games, helping Toronto win the 2022 Grey Cup, and was named a CFL All-Star. Next, Peters signed with the Atlanta Falcons on January 9, 2023.
The Argonauts released him on January 17, 2023. Peters attended camp with the Falcons but was released on June 5, 2023. Peters signed with the Toronto Argonauts on June 12, 2023. In 2023, Peters made 32 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 13 games. Peters played a total of three seasons in Toronto with 120 tackles, 11 interceptions, one sack, and two forced fumbles in 36 games.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Peters on February 14, 2024. In 2024, Peters made 38 tackles, three tackles on special teams, and four interceptions in 14 games. He re-signed with the Ticats through the 2025 season on September 23, 2024.
Collegiately, Peters played four seasons at Mississippi State (2015-18) with 99 tackles (56 solos, 43 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions for 90 yards, one touchdown, ten pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 46 games for the Bulldogs.
