The Ottawa Redblacks re-signed linebacker James Peter to a contract extension through the 2026 season on Friday.
James Peter is five foot ten and weighs 220 pounds. The 26-year-old from Ottawa, Ontario, made five tackles and 19 tackles on special teams in 17 games in 2025.
The Ottawa Redblacks drafted Peter in the second round (12th pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, Peter made five tackles on special teams in nine games. In 2024, Peter made 10 tackles and one forced fumble in 16 games.
Collegiately, Peter played five seasons at the University of Ottawa (2017-22) with 149 tackles (96 solos, 53 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one pass breakup in 30 games for the Gee-Gees.
In his senior year, Peter made 72 tackles (44 solos, 28 assists), three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and one pass breakup in eight games in 2022. He was named First Team U SPORTS All-Canadian, First Team OUA All-Star, and won the Gee-Gees Team Award for Defensive MVP in 2022.
